On Monday we were guests at bauhaus.fm in Weimar. The artists and radio makers from the Class for Experimental Radio at Bauhaus University Weimar invited us to be part of their live broadcast “Listening to the City”. Sol Rezza introduced her story of mapping the city of Halle acoustically.

Kühle Brunnen. An acoustic conquest https://radioart-residency.net/en/der-kuehle-brunnen-eine-akustische-eroberung/ Sun, 15 Apr 2018 20:41:57 +0000 https://radioart-residency.net/?p=213 Photo: Sol Rezza

The Renaissance palace „Kühle Brunnen“ (cool well) lies hidden in a winding alleway close to the market place of Halle (Saale). Commissioned by the louche cardinal Albrecht of Brandenburg the the building was created as a place for bodily welfare and pleasure. Built around 1520 the building now is in private hands and protected as a historic monument.
Sol Rezza, artist-in-residence from Argentina/Mexico, Mark Hornbogen, Tina Klatte, Elisabeth Rändel and Ralf Wendt, radio makers and artists from Halle, brought the Kühle Brunnen to life again.

For one afternoon, on Friday, April 13, they opened up the historic walls and created on air and on site a place liberated from church, conventions and attributions. The secrets surrounding the secular desires of cardinal Albrecht form the historical background for a broadcast questioning the restrictions to present lust and desire.

Sound Mapping the City — An Acoustic Map of Halle https://radioart-residency.net/en/sound-mapping-the-city-eine-klangkarte-von-halle/ Tue, 20 Mar 2018 21:04:54 +0000 https://radioart-residency.net/?p=174

Sol Rezza is mapping the city of Halle acoustically. In April the broadcasting series Sound Mapping Halle is creating and presenting an acoustic map of the city of Halle on air and online. In our first broadcast we talked about the concept of “maps” and the act of mapping. What provides a sounding map? Sol Rezza is presenting the first mark on the acoustic map: “The Wall of Illusions”, an acoustic reflection on the mural of Hans-Joachim Triebsch in Halle

The act of mapping public and private spaces is an act of tagging these places. In several live broadcasts these acts create real-time radio narratives. The resulting acoustic tags and sonic reflections of the city are gradually shaping a sound map, which proposes an alternative concept of “orientation” for its listeners.
